Build a Good Backstroke #theraceclub
No matter how good your technique in backstroke is you must have a fast stroke rate in order to be competitive. We have a saying at the Race Club that Stroke rate, stroke rate and stroke rate are the 3 most important elements to a fast backstroke. We like to build a good backstroke technique before practicing stroke rate that entails maintaining a good head and body position, good rotation and right amount of bend in the elbow during the pulling motion. Check out our video 'Building a Good Backstroke' to learn the drills we practice before learning stroke rate. http://theraceclub.com

Backstroke Breakout #theraceclub
In this video, Race Club swimmer Riley demonstrates a fresh backstroke breakout method. Inspired by Kliment Kolesnikov, this technique involves keeping the head submerged for the initial two strokes after the breakout. This approach maintains forward momentum and enhances acceleration by preventing the body from rising immediately. It also ensures that the head stays aligned throughout the race. Give this a try on your next backstroke set! #swim #swimming #fitness #backstroke #breakout #triathlete #triathlon #usaswimming #technique #improvement #swimswam #theraceclub

Diving into another great week in Sunny California! We like to use running dives to enter the water at times for a few reasons. One of these being it helps the athlete isolate a hip lift while entering the water without thinking about the other motions of a successful start. But also, because it is FUN! #swimming #swim #fitness #start #athlete #sprint #technique #usaswimming #triathlon #triathlete #usmasters #agegroup #improvement #theraceclub

Race Club swimmer Caleb showcased significant promise during his week-long training with us. In this footage, he executes an efficient spin turn, achieving an excellent hyper-extended streamline. Nevertheless, there's always potential for a swimmer to enhance their skills. We talk about how important stroke rate is in competitive swimming, but how often are you testing it? Using a tempo trainer, we can consistently set and adjust our tempo so we can practice how we want to race. Using this is a guaranteed way to hit your ideal stroke rate. Does your team ever use these? #swimming #swim #freestyle #technique #fitness #triathlon #athlete #strokerate #theraceclub #sprint #fast #usaswimming #starts #turns

Head Position Debate #theraceclub
A major discussion in the realm of swimming revolves around the ideal head position. We continue to observe a range of head positions across all four strokes. While we advocate for keeping the head lowered (as demonstrated by Dylan in this video), some swimmers achieve greater speed with their head angled slightly upwards (like Jerome). Undoubtedly, lowering the head minimizes drag, though it might affect the swimmer's strength or power compared to when the head is angled forward. We hold the view that practicing with a lowered head helps in building and mastering the ability to generate more power, ultimately leading to quicker swimming over time. Share in the comments section which head position you adopt and your reasoning for believing it's the fastest. A great Tandy start! #theraceclub
Last week, we saw improvements in our starts from every swimmer at our camp. This Race Club swimmer shows us a great Tandy start, with a MASSIVE jump off the blocks! Note his initial head lift, his back leg kick, and the way he pulls on the block with his arms. Is there anything you notice? #theraceclub #swim #swimming #start #techinique #jump #startingblock #swimstart #improvement #sprinting #sprint #athletic #fitness #athlete

A Great Backstroke Start #theraceclub
A great backstroke start from Becca Wyke. Notice the high setup and big up kick that allows for a clean entry. She breaks out and takes 2 strokes underwater. A technique that we observed the World Champ in the 50 backstroke use this Summer in Singapore. Way to go Becca!
