STOP breathing like this! 🏊♂️
A huge mistake a lot of swimmers make is letting their lead arm sink while taking a breath. We see this all the time during technique analysis at our retreats. Many swimmers use that front arm to push down on the water and hold their body up while breathing.
Why this destroys your stroke:
When you push down for support, you completely lose the first third of your pull. You miss out on the early vertical forearm, which is exactly where the magic happens in swimming. That proper catch is what separates the good swimmers from the great swimmers.
How to fix your timing:
Stay Extended: As you rotate to take your breath, make sure your lead arm remains fully extended directly in front of your shoulder.
Perfect Alignment: The water line should sit right in the middle of your head. Remember that your head must stay perfectly in line with your spine.
Head First: Let your eyes drop back down to initiate the rotation before you catch the water and glide to the other side. 🏊♂️
If you want to swim fast, your body must remain symmetrical in the water.
