Stop entering the water thumb-first in freestyle! 🖐️
Entering thumb-first is one of the most common hand-entry mistakes in swimming, and it ruins your catch before your stroke even begins!
Here is how to set up the perfect hand entry:
Aim for the Middle Finger: Your middle finger is your longest digit and naturally aligns directly with your forearm. Aim for your middle (or ring) finger to slice into the water first.
Ditch the Thumb Entry: Entering thumb-first twists your hand into an awkward angle that provides zero leverage for pulling water.
Set Up the EVF: A clean, middle-finger entry allows you to extend smoothly into a glide and immediately set up your Early Vertical Forearm (EVF) catch.
Drive Forward, Not Up: Pushing water downward just pushes your head upward. Getting your palm and forearm facing backward as fast as possible creates maximum forward propulsion!
