JSN: From Third Option to NFL Receiving King | The Story of Jaxon Smith-Njigba

Three years ago, Jaxon Smith-Njigba was the third receiver on his own team in Seattle. Now he's the best wide receiver in football, and the players agree with me.

This is the story of how a kid from Rockwall, Texas kept landing third in line, behind Garrett Wilson and Chris Olave at Ohio State and then behind DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett in Seattle. Then the Seahawks took the handcuffs off. All he did in 2025 was lead the NFL with 1,793 receiving yards, the eighth most in league history. He won Offensive Player of the Year, made first-team All-Pro unanimously, and won a Super Bowl ring.

We get into the 347-yard Rose Bowl, the rookie game-winners with Drew Lock, the move from the slot to the outside that changed everything, and why the NFL's Top 100 has him above Puka Nacua, Ja'Marr Chase and Justin Jefferson.

Is JSN the best receiver in football, or is it Puka? Drop your take in the comments.

All stats are current as of week 2 of the 2026 NFL season.
