Dan Wilson Is Gone. Jerry Dipoto Isn't. Yet. | Eleven Years, Two Octobers

The Seattle Mariners spent their 50th season doing something no Mariners team had done before. The Seattle Times called it the most disappointing year in franchise history. Eleven months earlier, this same group was eight outs from the World Series.

Then they fired the manager. And the bench coach, the hitting coach, the infield coach, the first base coach, and back in July, the assistant hitting coach. Six people paid for 2026. The man who decided what the roster was built to do is heading into his twelfth season with full autonomy.

This isn't a video about a bad season. Bad seasons happen. It's about eleven years of one philosophy, two playoff appearances, and a front office that has never been held accountable for either.

Everything here is sourced. The numbers come from Baseball Reference, Baseball Savant and the MLB Stats API, pulled after game 162. The reporting comes from Ryan Divish and Adam Jude at the Seattle Times.

I close with five things that have to change, and the first one probably isn't what you're expecting. Tell me in the comments whether you'd make the same call.
