The Only GM In NFL With Multiple SB's and Zero Repeat Players & Coach | The Story of John Schneider

John Schneider is the only GM in football with multiple Super Bowl wins, zero repeat players, and different head coaches with the same organization.

Here's how that happened.

In January 2010, Seattle introduced a 38-year-old Packers executive as its new general manager. At the press conference, CEO Tod Leiweke sat down between Schneider and his new head coach and told the room exactly who would win if those two ever disagreed.

"If someday there is a dispute between these two guys and there's a coin toss, we are going to build the team around this man and his players. Pete wins the coin toss."

So Schneider went out and made 284 roster transactions in one calendar year. Not across a rebuild. In 2010 alone. He traded a fourth-round pick for Marshawn Lynch, spent first-rounders on Russell Okung and Earl Thomas, and took Kam Chancellor in the fifth. That team went 7-9, won the division anyway, and buried the defending champs on a 67-yard run that registered on a seismograph.

The next spring he found Richard Sherman in the fifth round. The spring after that he used a third-round pick on a quarterback every team in the league had passed on twice. In February 2014, Seattle beat Denver 43-8 and Schneider had his first ring.

Then came the part nobody makes a highlight reel out of. The Legion of Boom aged out. Wilson got traded. Carroll was let go after the 2023 season, fourteen years in, and for the first time since that press conference Schneider had the final say that used to belong to the man sitting next to him. He used it on a 36-year-old defensive coordinator named Mike Macdonald.

Two years later, on February 8, 2026, Seattle beat New England 29-13. Sam Darnold at quarterback. Kenneth Walker III with the MVP. Not one player on that field had been on the roster that won the first one. Paul Allen was gone. Leiweke was gone. Carroll was gone.

The guy who got told he'd lose the coin toss is the last one still in the building, and he has two rings.
