In one of the coolest stories in running, Ethan Shuley went from a 2:46 marathoner to 2:07:14 in just 15 months ā making him the sixth fastest American ever. The 27-year-old unsponsored runner living in Tokyo has shocked the running world. Just two years ago, he hadn't broken 15 minutes for 5K. He ran only one race in college with an 8:45 for 3,000 meters.
How did this happen? We dive into his journey ā from quitting running at BYU due to injuries, to the Japanese racing philosophy of "send it and die gracefully," training 125+ miles per week on six days, and why he's now a 2028 Olympic contender being coached via Instagram DMs.

About the LetsRun.com Podcast
Since 2000, LetsRun.com has been the independent home of elite running. Described by the New York Times as the "influential website that serves as something of a superego for American running," the podcast is the weekly deep dive into the world of track and field and elite distance running.
The show is hosted by LetsRun.com co-founders Weldon Johnson, a 2-time Team USA member, and Robert Johnson, a former Cornell coach who helped pace the marathon World Record, along with award-winning senior writer Jonathan Gault. Together, they move beyond the PR headlines to provide the insider reporting and unfiltered debate that serious fans and industry insiders rely on.
