Stop holding your breath while you swim! 🫧
It is not natural, and it is probably the exact reason you feel exhausted and uncomfortable in the water.
If you do not actively push air out, water is going to go right up your nose. To fix this, you need to apply constant negative pressure.
Here is how to master your breathing technique:
Constant Pressure: Whenever your face is in the water, you should be constantly exhaling through your nose.
Pace Your Breath: Do not exhale all of your air the second you go underwater! You want to maintain a steady "51% out" pressure to create a differential that keeps the water out without emptying your lungs too fast.
Start Simple: If you are just getting started, practice sinking underwater and simply blowing bubbles out of your nose. It will help you feel much more relaxed and natural.
Once you master your breathing, you need a plan to build your endurance!
