Are your legs leaving you completely out of breath? 🥵
Your legs are massive muscles that can consume up to 80% of your total oxygen supply while swimming. If you are constantly gasping for air, you are probably making the huge mistake of kicking way too much.
Overkicking sucks all the oxygen out of your body and severely limits the power of your pull.
Here is how to manage your energy in the water:
Pace Your Distance: If you are doing a longer swim workout, you have to tone down your legs. This saves your oxygenated blood for the rest of your body, allowing you to swim further without gassing out.
Sprint With Power: If your goal is to go as fast as possible for a short duration, that is when you fully engage. Pump your arms and kick as hard as you can!
Focus on the Pull: For most of your continuous laps, rely on your upper body to do the heavy lifting while keeping a steady, relaxed kick.
