Running Out of Breath in Freestyle? Do these simple drills!πββοΈ
Swimming
If you constantly find yourself running out of breath during freestyle, the issue might not be your fitnessβit is often just your balance and alignment in the water. π
Instead of fighting for air and draining your energy, mindfully incorporate these two drills into your next warmup to reset your rhythm:
Kickboard Breathing Drill: Isolate your breath by holding a kickboard with your lead arm. Gently rotate your hips and focus on keeping your bottom ear resting softly on your extended arm as you take a breath. This helps you build comfort, timing, and stability on your side without letting your hips sink.
Paddle on Head Balance Drill: Place a paddle directly on the crown of your head while you swim. This mindful challenge forces you to keep your head perfectly still and aligned with your spine. It ensures you are smoothly rotating from your core to find the air, rather than lifting or throwing your head out of the water.
Technique comes before speed, and a calm, centered breath is the true foundation of an effortless stroke. Take your time practicing these movements, give yourself some grace, and always swim with a smile! π
Save these drills for your next pool day, and follow along for more mindful technique refinements. π
