About an hour before I filmed this, I was about to find out something I'd been desperate and terrified to know in equal measure: how much fitness did I actually lose?
Last September I picked up an injury right on the cusp of the best training block of my career, heading into Chicago Marathon. Three months of no running, no cross training, just rehab. Since late January I've been gradually building back up, but I've had no real idea where I actually stand... until now.
I sat down with George for a full lab test, covering lactate threshold, running economy and VO2 max, the three numbers that tell you everything about where your fitness really is.
