Jared and Mark sit down with Mississippi State right-hander Ryan McPherson, one of the anchors of the Bulldogs’ rotation. McPherson talks about his path to the mound: falling for the game at nine, his velocity jump after an injury his freshman year of high school, committing to State, and coming back from a UCL injury. He explains why the Dude and its record crowds felt like the closest thing to pro ball, and what it’s been like playing for Brian O’Connor, who he calls the best coach he’s ever had. Looking ahead to 2027, he’s refining his slider, cutting down on big misses, and has switched to a “quality over quantity” throwing program to protect his arm. He also covers staying present through the SEC grind and leading by example as a third-year arm. The episode wraps with a rapid-fire round on Zaxby’s, golf struggles, his pick between facing Ohtani or Mike Trout, his game-day superstition around the number four, and his walkout song.
