Iva Jovic vs Jasmine Paolini - Preview & Prediction - 2026 WTA Ningbo Open

Iva Jovic vs Jasmine Paolini — full preview, head-to-head breakdown and prediction for their SECOND ROUND / ROUND OF 16 clash at the 2026 BNB Ningbo Open, a WTA 500 in China. A rising American teenager against a former Grand Slam finalist.

Iva Jovic is the FOURTH SEED here and arrives with a first-round bye. The 18-year-old American has had a genuine breakout year: a career-high World No. 14 in August, around 31-16 on the season, a maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open — where she became the youngest American woman to reach the last eight in Melbourne since Venus Williams in 1998 — plus the Wimbledon fourth round, and a US Open run that included beating Alexandra Eala 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 in a three-hour epic on Arthur Ashe before losing to Coco Gauff.

Jasmine Paolini is a far more awkward opponent than her current ranking suggests. The Italian sits around World No. 31-35 in a season that hasn't matched her best, but this is a player who reached BOTH the Roland-Garros and Wimbledon finals in 2024 and knows exactly how to win matches when she isn't playing her best tennis. She proved it in the first round here, ESCAPING FROM 5-0 DOWN IN THE SECOND SET to beat Anhelina Kalinina 6-2, 7-5.

That's the match in a sentence: Jovic has the better form, the seeding and the bye; Paolini has the bigger-match pedigree and just showed she won't fold. The bye cuts both ways too — Jovic comes in fresh but cold, against an opponent who already has court time and a comeback in her legs.

The winner moves into the quarterfinals of a draw that also features defending champion and World No. 1 Elena Rybakina.
