Alexandra Eala vs Antonia Ruzic — full preview, head-to-head breakdown and prediction for their QUARTERFINAL at the 2026 Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open. Eala is two wins from ending her season with a trophy.
Alex Eala finally broke through. The No. 2 seed had NEVER beaten Tereza Valentova in two previous attempts — and she got it done 6-3, 7-6(7) in the second round, saving NINE OF THE 12 BREAK POINTS she faced. It's her SEVENTH TOUR-LEVEL QUARTERFINAL of the season and her second in a row after Tokyo, and it comes after an opening win over Emerson Jones 6-4, 6-3.
The context for the season is remarkable. She closes 2026 at World No. 19 having won the FIRST WTA SINGLES TITLE in the history of Philippine tennis at the DC Open in Washington — beating Qinwen Zheng, Leylah Fernandez, Elina Svitolina, Naomi Osaka and world No. 3 Jessica Pegula in a single week — plus a Toronto round of 16, a US Open third round as the highest-seeded Filipina in Grand Slam history, and Asian Games bronze.
Antonia Ruzic has quietly put together a good week. The Croatian, ranked around World No. 81, reached her FIRST HONG KONG QUARTERFINAL with a three-set win over Wang Xinyu, her second quarterfinal of this Asian swing. She hit a career-high World No. 50 in July and her 2026 includes a Dubai quarterfinal and a Hobart semifinal, so she's capable on this level.
This is their FIRST MEETING on the WTA Tour. Eala is the clear favourite — the models give her around a 73% chance — and with defending champion Victoria Mboko absent through injury, this title is genuinely there to be won.
