What does it take to develop the next generation of elite golfers? And what can we learn from someone who has spent more than 20 years helping junior golfers reach their potential?
In this episode of the Your Golf Performance Podcast, Brent Dale welcomes back Chris Smeal, founder of Future Champions Golf (FCG), one of the world's leading junior golf tournament organisations.
Having helped create pathways for thousands of junior golfers, including players who have gone on to compete at the highest level, Chris shares his experiences and insights into junior development, tournament golf, coaching, and the important role parents play in a young golfer's journey. We dive into what separates talented juniors from those who ultimately succeed, the dangers of becoming too results-focused at a young age, developing effective practice habits, and why learning to compete with your B-game is so important.
Brent and Chris also discuss the growing relationship between Future Champions Golf and Australian junior golf, including the successful Sydney Junior Open, which attracted 107 players in July and provided a qualifying pathway to the FCG World Championship. With the Sydney Junior Classic returning December 16–18, they explore the importance of international opportunities, building successful junior tournaments, and creating pathways for Australian golfers to compete on the world stage.Whether you're a junior golfer, parent, coach, or passionate about player development, this episode is packed with valuable insights from one of junior golf's most experienced leaders
