The Houston Astros announced this morning that Dana Brown is no longer the GM of the team and shortly after it was announced that Joe Espada was told he was not going to be returning to the team next season. Espada was given the choice of remaining with the team until the end of this season or leaving now. The current Astros manager chose to stay with the team, despite currently dealing with an undisclosed family situation. While the Astros needed a shake up, it’s head-scratching that the moves were made with about a month left in the regular season. We here at the podcast are worried that Jim Crane is about to make more desperate moves (and potentially moves that a baseball GM would be hesitant to co-sign). Could he resign Montero and an aging 1st baseman like he did last time he put himself in charge? We are a bit worried about what a month of desperation could do. After losing three series to some of the worst teams in baseball, the Astros need to play some winning baseball. Welcome to the crash-out! Let’s talk about this emotional decision, what lead to it, and speculate on the ramifications of what can happen next.
