On today's episode of The Sheet with Jeff Marek, Jeff breaks down the latest NHL news, trade rumours, and biggest storylines from around the league, recapping last night's games and looking ahead to a busy weekend of NHL action. Former NHL general manager and executive Brian Burke joins Jeff to share his perspective on the biggest developments around the NHL, which teams have impressed him early in the 2026-27 season, which clubs are raising concerns, and what he's watching as the season unfolds. Later, Utah Mammoth General Manager Bill Armstrong joins the show to discuss one of the wildest NHL offseasons in recent memory, from blockbuster trades and offer sheets to massive free-agent contracts and the impact of the rising NHL salary cap on player salaries, team building, and the NHL trade market. Armstrong offers an inside look at what it was like navigating a rapidly changing league as a general manager before diving into the Utah Mammoth's offseason, their start to the 2026-27 NHL season, expectations for the roster, and what could still be ahead for the franchise.
