JIM MONTGOMERY | Ice Guardians Ep 47

Kelly Chase and Brett Hull are back in the Window World Studio with former teammate and current St. Louis Blues head coach Jim Montgomery this week. Monty and Hully talk about the recruitment process to play college hockey and how NIL money has effected hockey. The guys relive one of the greatest pranks pulled on Monty while he was playing for the Blues and some of the other shenanigans they used to get up to in the locker room. Monty talks about playing with Paul Kariya at Maine before going pro and then discusses how he got into coaching at the college level. Hully and Monty talk about the special talent that Johnny Gaudreau had at a young age and the guys compare coaching at the college level and the NHL. Monty tells Hully the importance of scheduled days off, the Blues tough start to the season, and how the team is approaching the condensed training camp this year. Monty relives his time as a player/assistant coach for the Missouri River Otters during an NHL lockout year and some of the things that he learned that have shaped who he is as a coach. The guys talk about the upcoming season for the Blues and Monty tells the guys what he's excited about heading into training camp.
