Beşiktaş have made a statement in the UEFA Europa League! The Black Eagles opened their league-stage campaign in spectacular fashion, crushing Olympique de Marseille 4-1 at Tüpraş Stadium in a dominant performance under head coach Vincenzo Italiano.

Despite Marseille equalising in the first half, Beşiktaş exploded into life after the break to score three unanswered goals and secure a massive 3 points.

Youngster İlhan Fakılı stepped into the starting XI in place of the injured Leandro Trossard and rewarded Italiano's faith in him, opening the scoring after a brilliant assist from Junior Olaitan.

Marseille hit back when youngster Abdallah was sent through on goal and calmly finished past the Beşiktaş defence.

45' — DE LANGE DENIES ORKUN
Just before half-time, Dušan Vlahović produced a brilliant pass to send captain Orkun Kökçü through on goal, but Dutch goalkeeper Jeffrey de Lange made an important save to keep Marseille level.

52' — VÁCLAV ČERNÝ 2-1
Beşiktaş regained the lead early in the second half! Orkun Kökçü turned provider, setting up Václav Černý, who calmly brushed the ball into the lower-left corner.

58' — AMIR MURILLO 3-1
The floodgates opened! Orkun delivered another dangerous set piece, this time from a corner, and Amir Murillo rose highest to head home against his former club. The defender had joined Beşiktaş from Marseille earlier this year.

81' — ERNEST POKU 4-1
And there was still time for another! Ernest Poku scored his first goal for the Black Eagles, finishing after another assist from Junior Olaitan, who completed a brilliant two-assist performance.

An emphatic start to Beşiktaş's UEFA Europa League league-stage campaign, with Italiano's side collecting three hugely important points in style.

The result is even more painful for Marseille, who suffer their fourth consecutive defeat in all competitions.
