The next frontier in the super shoe wars is weight, and ASICS has just unleashed its latest flagship. And at just 4.5oz, it’s one of the lightest shoes I’ve ever tested. Run with me in the Tyr Maverick. They’re using a supercritical foam, Flight Time, that promises more airtime with each stride and fewer steps required per mile. I haven’t looked too deep into that specific claim, but the foam is lightweight, airy, and bouncy. The shoe has a pleasant squish but couples it with a very fast response for an experience that is lovely yet cushioned. This run was a recovery run, and the shoe was pleasant. A subsequent run was an easy run and I definitely found myself inadvertently picking up the pace a bit. Further testing will be to easy if the shoe has long run potential. The shoe it foot shaped with a wide toe box. It almost feels too big for me. But it’s a large shoe with a light weight, thanks to the materials chosen for the upper and that light Flight Time foam. . Disclosures: Tyr sent me these shoes so I did not have to pay for them. No one is paying me to make this video or to include their brand in this video. No brands are tagged. No hashtags used.

Adidas Takumi Sen 11 (and a mini Adios 9 review)
This is not the most popular shoe in the Adidas lineup, but it’s perennially one of my favorite shoes that Adidas makes. Tokyo World Championships. Days 1-3. A Runner's Weekend
The Olympics happen every fourth year, but that’s not the only time the World’s best gather to compete. In the odd number years, the World’s best track and field athletes will line up to see who can run the fastest, vault the highest, and throw the farthest. And since 2025 is an odd number year, that means it’s time to hop on a plane and head east. This is the Adidas Prime X3 Strung. It’s got two layers of carbon, a super tall stack height of 50mm, and upper created by a robot that carefully places each strand of high tensile fiber. Men’s Marathon Tokyo World Championships
Today was the men’s turn to run the World Championships marathon course in Tokyo, and the men got similarly sinister condotions. The pack set out cautiously, with a giant pack sticking together for about 35k of this race. But by 40k, things had splintered apart (although there was still a sizable pack going after the podium through the last aid station). @_clayton_young_ fought hard for 9th overall and top American @reedfisch ran a disciplined race, finishing as second American and 28th overall. I haven’t done the math, but from what I saw on the course, it felt like he clawed his way up a lot of spots in the back half of the race. @cjalbertson started off strong and was in the second American spot for much of the race when I was him. But by 40k, it looks like the heat on this very humid day may have bested him. But it was honest effort on the day.

World Championships Marathon Tokyo 2025
This race was moved to start 30 minutes earlier, but the heat and humidity were still oppressive out on the course today. Kobayashi took out the race fast, with the three Americans following close behind. By the 18k mark (it might have been earlier but I next saw the runners at 18k), @susannasullivan4 had taken the lead and continued to run well solo when I saw the runners again at 22k. It was a bit of a surprise to me to see her alone in front, but I was hoping that her last success in the heat meant that maybe she’s just built for this (she finished top American at Worlds in Budapest where the sun and heat were hotter although it was less humid). @jesstonn followed closely behind in third at 18/22k, and because Jess McClain has also performed well in high stakes, high heat races, I was starting to hope that maybe the US could bring in two podium spots. @imtinyrik came through the 18k mark a bit after the chase pack, but seemed to have found a small pack of runners to work with. The last time I saw the runners was at about 40k. Tigst Assefa and Peres Jepchirchir were running stride for stride and shoulder to shoulder. Shortly behind them was Julia Paternain, who secured 3rd place and Uruguays first ever world championship medal in what apparently was only her second time running the distance. Jess McClain finished 4th, looking strong as she came down the final hill into the last kilometer of the race. Erika Kemp came in as the final American on what was a challenging race day.
