HOKA Mafate 5 review - first run and first impressions. It’s been a while since we last reviewed a Hoka trail running shoe on the channel — around 10 months ago, to be exact, when I laced up the much-hyped Hoka Tecton X 3. But today, we’re back with a bang as I put their latest trail shoe, the Hoka Mafate 5, to the test. There’s been a real buzz around this shoe, especially at UTMB 2025, with plenty of mixed opinions on its performance. Is it a worthy update to the Mafate line or just another hyped release?
