When Indonesian conglomerate the Djarum Group acquired Como 1907 from Michael Essien's wife in 2019, the club was competing in Serie D, the semi-professional fourth tier of Italian football.

This season, powered by the richest ownership group in Italy, Como finished 10th in their first season back in Serie A in over 20 years.
