Wilt Chamberlain is known far and wide for being an unstoppable force of nature in the NBA throughout the 1960s. He shot and shot and shot, and scored and scored and scored. Constantly. Non-stop. 100 points in a game. More than 50 points per game in a season. The list goes on and on.
And yet. Toward the very twilight of his career, Wilt decided to shake things up. He just ... stopped. He stopped shooting. He stopped scoring. It made no sense. Nothing about the circumstances of himself or his Lakers seemed to suggest any rational reason to become complacent and passive to the most extreme degree possible.
So we delved into this bizarre abstinence that flew in the face of everything we've ever known about Wilt -- and the full story, with all the various tentacles springing from it, couldn't be more ludicrous.
