This is Simeon Nikolov’s First Ever Professional Volleyball Match !!! Simeon Nikolov’s first ever official appearance for the Bulgarian senior national team came during the Olympic Qualification Tournament in September 2023, when Bulgaria faced China in one of the opening matches of the competition. Still a teenager at the time, Nikolov stepped onto the court as one of the youngest players in the squad, immediately drawing attention because of his height, composure and fearless playing style.

In that debut against China, Nikolov showed remarkable confidence for such a young setter. He distributed the ball with maturity beyond his years, keeping the tempo balanced between the wings and the middle, and he wasn’t afraid to take risks in crucial moments. What stood out the most was his aggressive jump serve, which immediately put pressure on the Chinese reception line. Even when Bulgaria struggled in certain rotations, Nikolov maintained calm body language and continued to push the pace of the offense.

Throughout the rest of the Olympic Qualification Tournament, Nikolov gradually earned more responsibility. The coaching staff trusted him not only as a substitute but also in important stretches of matches against stronger opponents. His connection with the middle blockers improved game by game, and his understanding with the outside hitters became more fluid as the tournament progressed. He demonstrated that he can run a fast, modern offense while also adapting to difficult situations when reception breaks down.

One of the biggest impressions from that tournament was his mentality. Despite Bulgaria facing tough competition and high-pressure scenarios, Nikolov never looked overwhelmed. Instead, he appeared energized by the challenge. His serving runs often shifted momentum, and he showed a willingness to block aggressively against experienced international attackers.

By the end of the tournament, Simeon Nikolov was no longer just “the young talent on the bench” — he had established himself as a serious option for Bulgaria’s future at the setter position. His debut against China marked the beginning of what many believe could be a long and impactful international career.
