Gerard Gallant Thinks Gavin McKenna Is Going to Be a SUPERSTAR

Gerard Gallant joins Nick Alberga & Jay Rosehill on Leafs Morning Take to tee up Toronto's visit to Vegas and discuss the Maple Leafs.

Gallant weighs in on Auston Matthews' dominant four-point performance against Nashville, calling the Leafs captain outstanding. He also discusses Gavin McKenna's adjustment to the NHL, comparing his situation in Toronto to Alexis Lafreniere's early years with the New York Rangers.

Gallant stresses the importance of patience, communication and keeping McKenna's confidence high, while explaining why coaching a young player in the Toronto market wouldn't necessarily change his approach. He also loves that McKenna is getting the opportunity to stay alongside John Tavares.

Plus, Gallant weighs in on the comparisons between McKenna and Mitch Marner and whether he believes McKenna can eventually become Toronto's long-term replacement for Marner. Gallant has high expectations for the young star, saying, “I think Gavin McKenna's definitely gonna be a superstar in this league.”

Gallant also discusses Hiller's coaching style, Sergei Bobrovsky, and what it was like coaching Nick Paul and Troy Stecher at the 2021 World Championship.
