The Day Simeon Nikolov Will Never Forget... In this dramatic Volleyball Nations League 2025 match, Bulgaria faced Türkiye in front of a passionate home crowd at Arena Burgas. What was expected to be a competitive battle between two rising European teams quickly turned into one of the most emotional moments of the VNL season.

Türkiye eventually secured a 3–0 victory (25–20, 25–20, 25–21), showing strong serving pressure and solid team play throughout the match. However, the biggest story of the night was not the final score, but the unfortunate injury suffered by Bulgaria’s young star setter Simeon Nikolov.

At just 18 years old, Nikolov was already one of the most exciting prospects in international volleyball. Standing 208 cm tall, he is known for his aggressive playing style, powerful jump serve, and ability to score points as a setter. During the VNL 2025 tournament, he had already contributed points with attacks, blocks, and aces, proving how important he was to the Bulgarian national team.

The turning point of the match came during the second set, when Nikolov landed awkwardly near the net after a rally. The young setter immediately grabbed his ankle and fell to the floor in visible pain. Medical staff rushed onto the court as the entire arena fell silent. After several minutes of treatment, Nikolov was carried off the court on a stretcher, creating an emotional moment for teammates, fans, and especially his brother Aleksandar Nikolov, who was also playing in the match.

Following the injury, Bulgaria struggled to recover both emotionally and tactically. Losing their starting setter disrupted the team’s rhythm, and Türkiye took advantage of the situation to control the rest of the match and close it out in straight sets.

Fortunately, later medical reports confirmed that Simeon Nikolov suffered an ankle sprain and no fracture was detected, although the injury still forced him to miss playing time during the tournament.

This match will be remembered not only for Türkiye’s strong performance, but also for the heartbreaking moment involving one of volleyball’s brightest young talents.
