Stop killing your breaststroke speed.
If you are pulling your entire chest out of the water to breathe, you are instantly killing your momentum.
A lot of swimmers have way too big of an amplitude in their stroke. But remember the golden rule: what goes up must come down. If you pop up too high for a breath or let your hands come too high out of the water on the recovery, your legs are going to sink like a rock.
Here is how to stay flat and swim faster:
Stay Low: To maximize your speed, you need to minimize your upward movement and focus entirely on your forward momentum.
Surface Level Recovery: When you send your hands forward into your streamline, keep them right at the surface level of the water.
Head Only: When you need a breath, just lift your head up. Do not lift your entire body out of the water.
