Miki Gorman won the 1976 New York City Marathon when she was 41 years old, a mom, and one of only a handful of elite women runners competing in the United States. She won again in 1977. Not until Shalane Flanagan in 2017 would another American woman win the open division of the TCS New York City Marathon.

Miki Gorman was an incredible athlete. She didn’t begin running until her mid-30s. Her first race was 100 miles. She's still the only woman to have won the open division of both the New York City and Boston marathons twice.
