Nathan Martin KICKS DOWN Leader To Win LA Marathon By 0.01 Seconds
Running
In one of the most dramatic finishes in marathon history, American Nathan Martin edged Kenya's Michael Kimani Kamau by just 0.01 seconds Sunday to win the Los Angeles Marathon — the closest margin ever recorded at the race.
How it happened: Martin, 36, made his move five miles from the finish when he noticed no one else was pushing the pace. By a mile and a half out, he had the leader in his sights.
The chaos at the line: Kimani Kamau, 34, had followed a race motorbike off course in the final mile, forcing him to double back and rejoin the route, which echoed the kind of lead vehicle confusion that upended the USATF Half Marathon Championships in Atlanta just days ago. He collapsed after being beaten at the line and was carried off on a stretcher by medical personnel.
