If there was one clear takeaway from Joe Burrow’s Wednesday press conference, it was that the Bengals’ quarterback didn’t sound particularly concerned about where things stand.

At 2-2, Cincinnati has plenty to clean up, especially after consecutive losses to Pittsburgh and Jacksonville. But Burrow’s tone was steady and confident. He didn’t come across as a quarterback searching for answers or questioning the direction of the offense. Instead, he sounded like someone who believes the Bengals already know what they need to do better.
That was especially evident when discussing Cincinnati’s under-center offense. Despite the struggles in the running game, Burrow continued to show confidence in the system. He didn’t suggest the Bengals need to scrap what they are doing. The message was much closer to: execute it better. That confidence is significant given the criticism surrounding the offense after the Jacksonville loss.
Burrow also didn’t seem overly concerned about the possibility of playing without Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. With Chase still in concussion protocol and Higgins dealing with an adductor injury, Cincinnati could be without its top two receivers. Burrow acknowledged the importance of timing and preparation but expressed confidence in the players who could be asked to step into larger roles.
That might have been the most telling part of the press conference. Burrow understands the Bengals have challenges, but he didn’t sound overwhelmed by them.
Instead, his demeanor suggested confidence in the offense, confidence in his teammates and confidence that better execution will lead to better results.
The Bengals have plenty to prove Sunday in Miami. But based on Burrow’s comments, their quarterback doesn’t appear to be pressing the panic button. He sounds like he believes this team is going to be just fine.
