Cincinnati fell to 2-2 with its second consecutive loss after opening the season 2-0, while Jacksonville improved to 3-1. The Bengals outgained the Jaguars 437-323, but Joe Burrow’s two interceptions proved to be the difference. Reuters
Burrow finished 39-of-54 for 428 yards and a touchdown, but his first interception gave Jacksonville a short field late in the second quarter. Jourdan Lewis returned the pick 45 yards to the Cincinnati 18, and Trevor Lawrence capitalized four plays later with a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr., sending the Jaguars into halftime with a 13-3 lead.
The Bengals responded after halftime. Burrow connected with Mike Gesicki for a 15-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 13-10, but another critical mistake followed early in the fourth quarter. With Cincinnati threatening inside the Jacksonville red zone, Foye Oluokun intercepted Burrow at the Jaguars’ 10-yard line, wiping away an opportunity to take the lead. Jacksonville Jaguars
Jacksonville eventually stretched its advantage to 22-10 on Chris Rodriguez Jr.’s 25-yard touchdown run. Burrow answered with a one-yard rushing touchdown, and Cincinnati got one final opportunity to steal the game.
The Bengals quickly drove to Jacksonville’s 21-yard line, but the comeback stalled. Burrow missed an open Gesicki in the end zone on second down, and on fourth-and-10, Chase Brown caught a short pass but was tackled one yard shy of the first-down marker with 56 seconds remaining.
Cincinnati’s offense was almost entirely dependent on Burrow. The Bengals rushed for just 23 yards on 15 attempts, including only 10 yards from Brown. Tee Higgins stepped up after Chase departed, catching 11 passes for 157 yards. Chase left during the second quarter with a concussion and did not return.
Lawrence, meanwhile, played an efficient, mistake-free game, completing 18 of 23 passes for 227 yards and a touchdown without an interception.
For Cincinnati, the final numbers told a frustrating story: 437 yards of offense and 26 first downs, but only 17 points. Two Burrow interceptions, 11 penalties and an inability to establish the run ultimately turned a winnable afternoon into another costly defeat.
