Is the Altra Vanish Carbon 3 Worth It? | Our Honest Review

In today’s video, Alex reviews the Altra Vanish Carbon 3, the latest race day shoe, and one that delivers a genuinely enjoyable ride while falling short of the very top of the carbon plated market.

The midsole is the most positive part of the story. The rocker is smooth and well executed, and the overall ride is bouncy and fun underfoot. That said, the foam compound is not as soft or as responsive as what you will find in the best race day shoes available right now, and Alex draws comparisons to race day shoes from a couple of years ago rather than the current generation of top tier carbon racers. Enjoyable, but not cutting edge.

The upper is where the shoe lets itself down most clearly. Excess material around the forefoot led to uncomfortable and persistent rubbing during Alex’s testing, which is a significant concern for a shoe you are expected to race in. For a brand with Altra’s loyal following and distinctive zero drop philosophy, the upper execution here needed to be better.

If you are an Altra fan curious about whether the Vanish Carbon 3 keeps pace with the competition, or want an honest take on one of the more interesting race day options for zero drop runners, Alex delivers.
