Is West Virginia football actually a contender this season? We break down the Mountaineers' offensive potential and defensive outlook.

Despite the 41 points given up to Oklahoma State, there are plenty of reasons to be encouraged by the current trajectory of the program. We analyze the performance of quarterback Michael Hawkins, who has proven to be a dangerous playmaker capable of generating explosive plays when the game breaks down. While there is still clear room for improvement regarding his passing structure, the raw talent is evident for those watching the film closely.

We also examine how the defensive unit stacks up against the rest of the conference and whether this team has the staying power to compete deep into the fall. It is a critical evaluation of where the roster stands and what needs to change for the Mountaineers to reach their ceiling.
