If you are struggling to generate speed in your breaststroke, you might be pulling too wide or dropping your elbows.
Here is the step-by-step breakdown of a perfect breaststroke pull:
Start in a βV-Lineβ: Begin in a tight streamline, bringing your pointer fingers together to form a βVβ shape so you are ready to cleanly scoop the water.
The Outsweep: Press the water outward just to about shoulder-width. Going wider than your shoulders wastes energy and ruins your catch!
High Elbow Catch: Once you reach shoulder-width, immediately roll your arms into a high elbow catch position to powerfully sweep the water in towards your hips.
Snap & Lunge: Bring your elbows in nice and tight to your body, then rapidly lunge your arms forward to reset your glide.
