A wedge grind is a modification to the sole that changes how the club interacts with the turf, sand and different lies. Relief can be added around areas such as the leading edge, trailing edge or heel to change the wedge's versatility and forgiveness.
Vokey Tour Rep Aaron Dill explains how Vokey wedge grinds are designed for different swings, conditions and types of short game shots. Some sole designs add forgiveness in softer conditions, while others allow the face to be opened more easily for greater shot-making versatility around the green.
Understanding wedge grind means understanding how sole shape, bounce and turf interaction work together. The right combination depends on how a golfer delivers the club and the shots they want to play.
