Low Vision, High Vibes | An NYRR Documentary Short
Kevin and Jasmine met through sport, but the encounter was far from typical, "We met at a tournament. She trips over my duffle bag and, I mean, she face planted." Kevin says, "After I got a couple chuckles in I helped her up. She's like 'Oh, I'm sorry I'm blind,' and I was like, ' Oh, me too!' So I do always tell the joke that she literally fell for me." For Jasmine, the story doesn’t end there. "It's only now that he claims the duffle bag was his," she says as they both laugh recalling their first encounter together.
This interaction, one they've likely recounted thousands of times, is full of joy and appreciation. Kevin and Jasmine are scholars, athletes, advocates, and more recently, parents, who also both happen to be blind. This is their story.
"We'll never be bored and we'll never just have nothing going on. There's always going to be something to look forward to, is what I promise her. Low vision, high vibes. That's our family motto."
