Why you are exhausted but not getting any faster?
If you hit the wall completely gasping for air after every swim, you are actually training your body to plateau.
Constantly swimming at that frustrating ""medium hard"" pace where you are tired but not actually sprinting is a massive trap. It just makes your technique sloppy and guarantees you will not get any faster.
If you want to swim faster using way less energy, you need to train at the extremes:
Zone 2 Endurance: Spend most of your time swimming nice and easy. This builds up your aerobic base without getting you tired or breaking down your form.
Zone 5 Speed: Mix in short, all-out sprints to boost your pure speed. ⚡
Ditch the Middle: Stop spending all your pool time in the exhausting middle ground that gives you minimal returns.
If that sounds great but you have no idea how to actually find your zones in the water, I have you covered.
