Medinah Country Club has been part of golf history for nearly a century. Course No. 3 has hosted three U.S. Opens, two PGA Championships, the 2012 Ryder Cup, the 2019 BMW Championship and now the 2026 Presidents Cup. Tiger Woods won two PGA Championships here, the Miracle at Medinah happened here, and Justin Thomas shot a course-record 61 here in 2019.
Now, Medinah is also my new home club.
And the Course No. 3 we’re playing today is very different from the one you remember. OCM Golf completely reimagined it ahead of the Presidents Cup. There are wider fairways, much larger greens, significantly more bunkering, far less rough, three entirely new holes and a dramatically different back nine. Fairway acreage essentially doubled, average green size increased by more than 40%, and the bunker count jumped from 70 to 117. The goal was to bring strategy, width and different ways of playing shots back into the golf course.
So before the best players in the world take it on at the Presidents Cup I wanted to see what I could shoot.
I’m getting ready for YGT and trying to get back to posting some lower numbers, so we’re playing all 18, talking through what has changed, how I think about the new strategy and seeing if I can break par at the new Medinah.
