Japan vs Iran | FINAL | AVC Men's Continental Championship 2026 | Highlights. The Japanese men's volleyball team, ranked 6th in the FIVB World Rankings (before the match), faced Iran, ranked 17th, on Sunday, September 13th, and won in straight sets, 3-0 (25-21, 26-24, 25-23), to claim the championship title. As a result, the Japanese men's volleyball team has also qualified for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The first set began with a serve by Ran Takahashi. Iran took an early lead of 0-3, but spikes by Yuji Nishida and direct spikes by Ran Takahashi tied the score at 5-5. The match went back and forth until the middle of the set, with the score at 13-13, but Japan took the lead again at 15-13 thanks to errors by the opponent and spikes by Ran Takahashi. At one point, Iran tied the score at 19-19, but Japan regained the lead with back attacks by Ran Takahashi and blocks by Larry Evadedan, and finally, Nishida scored with a spike to win the first set 25-21.

In the second set, Ran Takahashi's spike went out of bounds, giving Japan their first point. Japan took the lead with spikes and blocks from Nishida and quick attacks from Taishi Onodera, and at 6-2, Iran called a timeout. Japan maintained their lead at 10-6, but Iran gradually closed the gap with spikes and blocks that utilized their height. Iran seized the momentum and tied the score at 15-15 with a service ace, then took the lead at 15-17, but Japan showed resilience and tied the score again at 17-17. The match became a back-and-forth battle for side-outs towards the end, but Ran Takahashi's back attack gave Japan the first set point. Iran made a block to force a deuce, but in the end, Yuki Ishikawa's service ace made it 26-24, and Japan won this set as well.

In the third set, with Japan one win away from securing a spot in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, the match was closely contested from the start, reaching 12-12. Japan took the lead 14-12 after breaking serve from Ran Takahashi, but Iran quickly equalized. The match remained tied at 20-20 until the end, when Yuji Nishida's net-in serve gave Japan a 24-22 lead and match point. Finally, Ishikawa scored with a block-out after Tomohiro Yamamoto's block cover, making it 25-23. Japan won in straight sets, 3-0.
