Qatar vs Thailand | Highlights | AVC Men's Continental Championship 2026. Thailand delivered a commanding performance against Qatar in the preliminary phase of the 2026 AVC Men’s Volleyball Continental Championship, earning an impressive 3–0 victory in Fukuoka, Japan.

Thailand controlled the match with set scores of 25–22, 25–19 and 25–14. Qatar remained competitive during the opening set, but Thailand handled the decisive moments more effectively and secured it 25–22. The Thai team then increased the pressure, strengthened its control of the match and comfortably won the second set 25–19.

The third set was Thailand’s most dominant period of the match. With consistent serving, organized defense, effective transition play and efficient attacking, Thailand prevented Qatar from establishing a stable rhythm. The Thai team pulled away quickly and completed the straight-sets victory with a convincing 25–14 finish.

The progression of the set scores demonstrated Thailand’s growing dominance. Qatar finished only three points behind in the opening set, but the difference increased to six points in the second and eleven points in the third. Thailand ultimately outscored Qatar 75–55 across the entire match.

This result was especially notable because Qatar entered the tournament with considerable international experience and a renewed squad coached by Argentine head coach Camilo Soto. Qatar prepared for the championship with a training camp in Slovenia from August 15 to 26, where the team played three friendly matches against Egypt and additional matches against Slovenian professional clubs. Nine new players participated in the preparation as part of Qatar’s rebuilding process.

Qatar’s tournament squad included Mehdi Samoud, Andrea Cross, Abdulrahman Bakri, Mubarak Musa, Abdullah Naseem, Pape Maguette, Mohammed Abdulwahab, Ibrahim Saeed, Rahimi Wydidi, Renan Ribeiro, Youssef Al Yafei, Mohammed Al Waleed, Mohammed Al Sharshani and Naji Mahmoud.

Thailand arrived at the continental championship with encouraging form under experienced Korean coach Park Ki-won. Earlier in 2026, Thailand claimed silver at the second SEA Men’s V Cup tournament after defeating Cambodia 3–0 in the semifinal and losing a dramatic five-set final against Vietnam. Setter Boonyarid Wongtorn, opposite Napadet Bhinijdee and libero Pakkapong Kwangnok were all selected for that tournament’s Dream Team.

The victory also represented a remarkable turnaround from the previous meeting between these two national teams. At the 2026 AVC Men’s Cup on June 21, Qatar defeated Thailand 3–0 with set scores of 25–23, 25–23 and 25–17. Less than three months later, Thailand responded with its own straight-sets victory and won by a significantly larger total-points margin.

Qatar and Thailand were drawn into Pool C alongside South Korea and Chinese Taipei. Every match was important in the battle to qualify for the knockout stage, making Thailand’s straight-sets victory an excellent start to its continental championship campaign.

Thailand’s disciplined performance, consistent serving, defensive organization and growing control made the difference. Qatar challenged strongly during the opening set, but once Thailand captured it 25–22, the momentum shifted decisively. Thailand became more confident with every rally and completed the match with a dominant third-set performance.
