Sheffield Wednesday had the sixth highest attendances in English football, the eighth highest revenue, and had won more trophies than Chelsea at the beginning of the Premier League era.

Following 25 years outside of the top flight though, the club is currently under a three-window transfer embargo, they have repeatedly failed to pay their players on time, and they are facing the likely prospect of an EFL points deduction and relegation from the Championship this season.
