Best Plays of the Month | September

September was a month of program firsts and statement wins for the Washington Spirit. We kicked things off on the road with a thrilling 2-1 comeback over the Portland Thorns at Providence Park — our first win EVER at that venue. Tara Rudd leveled things from the spot after a VAR review, and Mélissa Bethi struck the winner in the 80th minute on her first start in Spirit colors, finished off a gorgeous assist from Trinity Rodman. Sandy MacIver backstopped the whole afternoon and capped it off by taking home NWSL Save of the Week for her heroics between the posts. We kept the momentum rolling two weeks later with a dominant 3-0 road win at Chicago Stars FC, with Trinity Rodman opening the scoring just seven minutes in, Andi Sullivan doubling the lead from the penalty spot, and Tamara sealing it late.
