The fastest way to fix your kick (hint: drop the kickboard) 🏊♂️
Swimming
If you want a powerful, propulsive flutter kick, clinging to a kickboard on your stomach is actually holding you back.
The best way to develop your technique, timing, and leg strength is to change your body position and systematically increase the difficulty.
Here is the exact progression to build an elite kick:
The Foundation: Start by kicking on your back in a tightly locked streamline. Keep your legs almost completely straight and focus on pointing your toes.
The Equipment Upgrade: Once your basic technique is solid, throw on a pair of short training fins (not long scuba fins!). Beginners should use softer fins, while advanced swimmers can use stiffer fins for maximum resistance.
The Rotation: Next, take that same straight-leg technique and apply it to your stomach (using a snorkel) or balance on your side (alternating right and left every half-lap).
The Underwater Challenge: Finally, take your flutter or dolphin kick completely underwater to master your feel for the water and build raw strength.
Stop letting your hips sink and start building real forward momentum.
