Today was the men’s turn to run the World Championships marathon course in Tokyo, and the men got similarly sinister condotions. The pack set out cautiously, with a giant pack sticking together for about 35k of this race. But by 40k, things had splintered apart (although there was still a sizable pack going after the podium through the last aid station). @_clayton_young_ fought hard for 9th overall and top American @reedfisch ran a disciplined race, finishing as second American and 28th overall. I haven’t done the math, but from what I saw on the course, it felt like he clawed his way up a lot of spots in the back half of the race. @cjalbertson started off strong and was in the second American spot for much of the race when I was him. But by 40k, it looks like the heat on this very humid day may have bested him. But it was honest effort on the day.
