Adjust, Avoid, Allow: A Smarter Strategy for Your Next Round of Golf | Titleist

Better golf course management starts with three questions: Adjust, Avoid and Allow. Andy Proudman and Piers Ward, co-founders of @meandmygolf. teach the 3 A's of approach play to help golfers evaluate playing conditions, identify trouble areas and choose smarter targets to save strokes without changing their golf swing.

Adjust means accounting for factors that affect ball flight and distance, including wind, elevation, temperature, ground firmness and lie. Avoid means identifying high-risk areas, such as a bunker protecting a tight pin position, and choosing a strategy that keeps those hazards out of play.

Allow widens your margin for error by leaving room for imperfect shots. Using a 138-yard approach with a bunker short of the green, Piers and Andy demonstrate why aiming slightly left and beyond the flag can provide a safer landing area. Even when the shots don't go exactly as planned, choosing the right target can keep the ball on the putting surface and reduce the risk of costly mistakes.
