Travis Kelce is averaging career highs in yards per catch (14.3) and yards per target (10.8) to open his 14th season, Patrick Mahomes looks like Patrick Mahomes again, and the Chiefs get the Dolphins. Ian Hartitz ranks his top 32 tight ends for Week 3, sorts them into four tiers, and stops after the first three for a bigger question about the position.
TIER 1: THE BIG SIX
Trey McBride, Brock Bowers, Dalton Kincaid, Travis Kelce, Tucker Kraft, George Kittle.
Key question: who have been fantasy's most efficient tight ends on a per-route basis? Dalton Kincaid, by a mile. Only Jaxon Smith-Njigba averages more yards per route run.
TIER 2: TOP-FIVE UPSIDE
Sam LaPorta, Isaiah Likely, Tyler Warren, Oronde Gadsden, Dalton Schultz, Colston Loveland.
Key question: who are the best streaming options at tight end if you're dealing with injuries and/or Colston Loveland? This week, Oronde Gadsden. Long term, Terrance Ferguson. Also like Darren Waller.
TIER 3: YOU COULD IMAGINE
Juwan Johnson, Mark Andrews, Jake Ferguson, Darren Waller, Kenyon Sadiq, Harold Fannin Jr., Terrance Ferguson, Pat Freiermuth, Kyle Pitts.
Key question: who have been the league's worst defenses against tight ends since the beginning of last season? The Bengals, and it isn't close. The Colts, Lions, Cardinals, Bucs, Steelers and Dolphins have been rough too.
TIER 4: THE OTHER GUYS
Hunter Henry, Brenton Strange, AJ Barner, T.J. Hockenson, Evan Engram, Mike Gesicki, Cade Otton, Greg Dulcich, Michael Mayer, Gunnar Helm, Colby Parkinson.
