In Episode 3 of this coaching series, I’m breaking down what it actually takes to move an athlete from a 3:00 marathon towards 2:45.
A 2:44:59 marathon means averaging around 3:54/km for 42.2km. So while zones, heart rate, lactate and intensity control are all incredibly useful, at some point the athlete has to become comfortable running the actual pace required on race day.
