Summer McIntosh's favorite moment outside the pool so far happened at Formula 1. Katie Hoff Anderson asks the three-time Olympic champion about a goal for 2027 that has nothing to do with swimming, and which experience made her stop and realize how cool her life has become.
At the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal, Summer presented the pole position award to George Russell. They both signed the tire and posed for photos, with one problem: he drives for Mercedes, and she was "literally head to toe in Red Bull." She also met Max Verstappen and Yuki Tsunoda in their garage before the race and took a picture with her medals. It came right after the 2025 Canadian Trials, and she calls it "one of the coolest weekends ever."
Before that, she talks about her goal for 2027: growing into her own. Her sister, a former figure skater who is about a year and a half older, inspires her by handling everything on her own, and Summer explains why, for an athlete at her level, "It takes a village." She closes with why she is skipping Short Course Worlds to train through toward US Open.
The full conversation with Summer, including what went wrong at Pan Pacs and life training under Bob Bowman in Austin, is on the Unfiltered Waters channel and wherever you listen to podcasts.
