How to Open the HIPS for Pure Impact
I see so many of my students struggle to get their hips open because they’re terrified of coming over the top 🎯
Getting open at impact isn’t about swinging harder or forcing it. It’s about learning what the position actually feels like in your body, then building that feel into your swing.
1. Set up with your club head behind an alignment stick on the ground 📏
2. Press down slightly and start pushing your hips AND hands toward the target - feel how your body wants to naturally open
3. Keep that pressure as you slide the club off the stick, maintaining that open feeling through impact
4. Let your body rotate fully through to a balanced finish - don’t stop halfway 🎯
5. Repeat this drill 10 times before hitting actual shots to groove that sensation
When you finally feel what “open” really means, you’ll wonder why you fought it for so long. This isn’t about forcing a position - it’s about discovering what your body already knows how to do.
