One of the Greatest Wins in Thailand Volleyball History !!! Thailand delivered one of the greatest victories in the history of their women’s volleyball team, defeating Asian powerhouse Japan in an unforgettable semifinal at the 2026 AVC Women’s Continental Championship in Tianjin, China.

Japan entered the match in outstanding form, having won every match without dropping a single set. As the highest-ranked Asian team in the FIVB World Ranking, Japan appeared to be one of the strongest contenders for the continental title—but Thailand refused to be intimidated.

Playing with incredible confidence, energy and fighting spirit, Thailand stunned Japan with a brilliant 3–1 victory. The Thai team controlled the opening stages of the match and won the first two sets 25–21 and 25–20. Japan responded by taking the third set 25–20, but Thailand stayed calm under pressure and finished the battle with another dominant 25–20 performance in the fourth set.

Pimpichaya Kokram was unstoppable for Thailand, scoring 20 points with 19 successful attacks and one block. Sasipaporn Janthawisut also produced a fantastic performance, contributing 16 points and delivering important attacks in the biggest moments of the match. Captain and setter Pornpun Guedpard controlled Thailand’s offense brilliantly, distributing the ball with intelligence and keeping Japan’s defense under constant pressure.

Japan’s captain Mayu Ishikawa fought until the final point and finished as the match’s leading scorer with 23 points, including 19 attacks, three blocks and one ace. However, even her incredible individual performance was not enough to stop Thailand’s inspired team.

This victory meant much more than simply reaching the final. Thailand had not defeated Japan for several years, and overcoming the highest-ranked team in Asia proved that this generation could compete with—and defeat—the continent’s strongest volleyball nations. The result also guaranteed Thailand a medal at the tournament and secured their place at the 2027 FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Cup.

This was the night when Thailand played without fear. Every attack, block, defense and celebration showed the heart of a team that truly believed it could make history. They remained composed when Japan attempted a comeback and delivered their best volleyball when the pressure was at its highest.

Thailand’s 3–1 victory over Japan will always be remembered as one of the defining moments of their incredible 2026 championship campaign—a historic win that opened the door to the final and showed the entire volleyball world the strength, courage and spirit of Thai volleyball.
